The mission of the Grünewald Guild, an ecumenical Christian community, is to promote and encourage creativity within individuals and congregations in response to the mystery of creation through the exploration of art & faith.
Grünewald Guild welcomes all as artists, from the hopeful to the accomplished, to explore vital connections and expressions of art and faith. We encourage the exploration of the depth and breadth of one’s essential beliefs and dynamic purpose through a wide variety of art. Participation in Guild programs has inspired and enthused many to return to their homes, communities, and places of work and worship to live more compassionately and authentically in service to a world desperately in need. Grünewald Guild serves as a creative and innovative example to spiritual communities and the world of the transformative power of art and the sacred in the context of community.

One of our most important missions is hospitality. We are here to offer space for your spiritual journey, and encourage you to pursue it through artistic expression. You may spend your days in contemplation. We offer housing and meals.
The Centrum is a remodeled Grange Hall. Downstairs, the kitchen and dining room accommodates up to 40 people a day. The main floor fellowship room is where guests relax, read, sit around the fire or enjoy lively conversation. There is a phone and computer with high-speed wireless Internet access available to guests and staff. The Office also is located here.
The Studio provides space for a variety of arts, including stained glass, printmaking, painting, drawing, calligraphy, ceramics, weaving, mosaic and sculpture. We also have space for lectures, film, discussions and other classes.
The Fiber Arts Studio houses a large selection of looms and is where we teach weaving, quilting and other fabric arts. The building contains five guest rooms, two bathrooms. All rooms on the ground floor are handicap accessible.
The Homestead provides sleeping accommodations in five double rooms. There are two bathrooms, a hospitality area, laundry room and living room with views into the quiet forest.
The Library was the original schoolhouse here in Plain Valley. Donated to the Guild, it now serves as a classroom and library. It also features a cozy, dorm-style sleeping loft.
Meals
We eat together in community. Our kitchen staff serves three meals daily during the summer, much of it from our organic garden in summer months. We also serve fruit from our own trees as well as fresh produce from the surrounding farms. Our kitchen turns out delicious menus of "slow food": everything here, including the bread, is cooked from scratch, primarily from whole grains and as fresh as possible. We accommodate vegetarians and those on special needs diets.

Our labyrinth is always evolving. As time goes by, it's paths become clearer. Visitors leave gifts and offerings that become part of it's winding pattern. The labyrinth represents our passage through life, with it's twists and turns.

Joy Moulton acquired the Marsh House land, Aldermarsh, in 1984. Drawn to the Whidbey Island community surrounding the Whidbey Institute, with its mission of bringing Earth and Spirit together, Joy made her home in the Maxwelton Valley. Aldermarsh embraces evolution and is in constant change. Change is the only constant; perhaps an overused phrase, yet here at Aldermarsh we are experimenting with this constancy in our inextricable unity with All That Is. |
The teachings of the retreats that come here linger in their influence of the evolution of this environment. Groups/individuals come and create an energy that continues to feed this community for the future. We steward over 11 acres of beautiful wetlands laced with walkways and teaming with wildlife. One guest writes This facility is amazing. |
| Aldermarsh has a gathering place called The Marsh House. This building is over 1000 square feet that can accommodate meetings, circles, movement, yoga, and meditation. We can sleep up to 25 people. |

Holden Village is a year-round ecumenical Christian renewal center, rooted in the Lutheran tradition. Once the site of one of the largest copper mines in the United States, Holden is nestled in the enchanting beauty of the Cascade Mountains near Chelan, Washington. Each year it attracts over 7,000 people, of all ages, for renewal through worship, study, work, recreation, celebration and conversation. We have many ways to volunteer as well as be a guest. |
Most guests come for the summer program which runs from the first Monday in June through the third Saturday in September. Bible studies and conversations on Christian faith, science, the arts, as well as social justice and global concerns offer a range of learning opportunities. Child care and activities for children and youth are also available Monday through Friday. |
| Daily worship sets the rhythm of life in the Village. Crafts classes, concerts, forums, special events and Holden hilarity further stimulate creativity and celebration. Located in a beautiful valley on the edge of Glacier Peak Wilderness Area, Holden offers countless opportunities for scenic mountain hiking and alpine lake fishing. |
| You may download a Registration Form from our web site. However, your completed registration form needs to be mailed via U.S. Postal Service to: Holden Village, HC00 Stop 2, Chelan, WA 98816-9769 (Holden has no telephone service; we are unable to receive e-mail).
