“Music for me is like a spiritual journey down into the depths of my soul. And I like to think we’re all on a journey into our souls. What’s down there?” asks Bobby McFerrin. What’s down deep in your soul?
Join Laura Caviani for a weekend retreat at Prairiewoods (120 East Boyson Road in Hiawatha). She brings her deep passion for music as a spiritual path through Circle Songs, developed by 10-time Grammy Award–winner Bobby McFerrin (famous for Don’t Worry, Be Happy), who has been credited as sparking the current revival in acapella music. Bobby says, “One of the simplest and most direct ways of praying and meditating is through singing, and singing in community is especially powerful. You get people together in a room and get them singing, and you instantly knock down all the walls—the creeds, the gender, age and race differences, everything. You’re all one at that point, lifting your voices.”
People of all ages, walks of life and levels of ability form circles, both in large and small groups, and sing—simply and passionately—from their souls. Communal singing helps unlock the divine Spirit inside us all. No professional training is required, and all ages and levels of ability are welcome. Come join the circle and find your soul on fire with song!
Facilitator Laura Caviani has more than 25 years of experiences as a jazz musician and educator. She has toured, recorded, composed and taught music from coast to coast and in Japan and Argentina. She makes music most Sundays for many different houses of worship in the Twin Cities and believes that “singing is the window into the soul.” She looks forward to leading folks in listening, sharing and trusting, but, most of all, she looks forward to having fun and making music together!
