Our Retreats
A Broom Tree Silent Retreat begins on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. with registration and concludes at 5:00 p.m. on Sunday evening. The daily schedule contains four or five general conferences, each approximately a half hour in length. These conferences are based on the Spiritual Exercises of Saint Ignatius. Each conference is followed by a free period in which to reflect and pray on the given scripture presented and to apply them to one’s own life.
Each day the retreatant has the opportunity to participate in the Eucharist, the rosary, Sacrament of Reconciliation and Benediction. Strict silence is maintained except for an optional recreation period after dinner on Friday and Saturday evenings. Being silent, waiting, and listening for God to speak - with nowhere to go, no agenda to keep and no superficial social contact is the key ingredient for communicating with God. The beauty of the grounds also helps dispose oneself to hear the Lord speak to us. Remember, Elijah did not find God in the earthquake, hurricane, or fire, but in the quiet breeze.
(1 Kings 19:12).

Elijah went a day's journey into the desert, until he came to a broom tree and sat beneath it. He prayed for death saying: "This is enough, O Lord! Take my life, for I am no better than my father." He lay down and fell asleep under a broom tree, but then an angel touched him and ordered him to get up and eat. Elijah looked and there at his head was a hearth cake and a jug of water... ... He got up, ate, and drank: then strengthened by that food, he walked forty day and forty nights to the mountain of God, Horeb.
1 Kings 19:4-8
