Secluded historic hotel with hot springs, bath house, dining rooms, and a large commercial kitchen. It is located on 18 acres of land on the banks of the Rio Grande River in southern New Mexico fifteen minutes from Las Cruces.
Structures on the property include a 9,000 square foot hotel, a 4500 square foot bathhouse and an 800 square foot cottage. There are 17 rooms in the hotel and 2 apartments in the bath house.
The Springs were used centuries ago by Native Americans who considered them to be sacred ground. Later, the Spanish used the Springs as a paraje (resting place) as they traveled the Camino Real between Mexico City and Santa Fe.
The first bath house was built in 1887 by buffalo soldiers from nearby Fort Selden. Later, cabins were built along the river. Then The Fort Selden Hot Springs Resort, National Spa, and Improvement Company was formed in 1912 to develop the Springs and the hotel. The present hotel was built in 1931 as a health resort and spa. It has been closed for several years while undergoing an extensive renovation and is ready to reopen as a business permit has been approved.
