Guest House is a delightful retreat and conference center in the scenic Connecticut River Valley. They offer spacious guest rooms with private bathrooms, superb cuisine, bottomless coffee, and amenities that range from a grand piano in the lobby to WiFi throughout the facility. You can focus on your work without distractions, while enjoying a nurturing and comfortable environment.

Guest House is a home for many east coast Diamond Approach® groups and their unique environment is ideal for groups from all disciplines. In general, Guest House supports transformation, growth, and inquiry in the realms of spirituality, psychology, education, health and wellness, leadership, the arts, and more.

Their facility is a beautifully renovated country inn on private wooded land, adjacent to a state forest with hiking trails and two neighboring lakes. Conveniently located midway between New York City and Boston, Guest House is easily reachable via major highways or by train.

Guest House is adjacent to the 16,000 acre Cockaponset State Forest, which has many miles of hiking trails. Cedar Lake, a 70-acre lake with a public beach, is less than half a mile away. Nearby attractions include the charming New England village of Chester, with interesting shops and restaurants. Guest House is about 10 miles from the northeastern Connecticut coastline of the Long Island Sound.

Wisdom House Retreat and Conference Center

Nestled in the foothills of the Berkshires, Wisdom House Retreat and Conference Center invites you to an experience of peace and tranquility. Since 1969, Wisdom House has been an interfaith center welcoming women and men who value seeking and learning in a contemplative environment. The center is a ministry of the Daughters of Wisdom of the United States Province.

As a country retreat and conference center, Wisdom House spans 70 acres of meadows, woods and brooks. Indoor and outdoor sanctuary areas and labyrinth encourage meditation, prayer and creative thinking.

Wisdom House has several buildings on its campus. The Farm House, with its fireplace, dates back to 1770. The barn, circa 1925, includes a meeting room. The Colonial Brick House, and outdoor swimming pool, labyrinth, 70 acres of meadows and forests, all comprise the campus of Wisdom House.

Care for the land and spirituality have always been two essential aspect of Wisdom House. Three artesian wells provide water for the center. Social responsibility and environmental consciousness guide the general operations of the center (water, heat, electricity, land, food). The 2007 installation of art windows and glass balcony barrier in the chapel attempt bring “nature” into the worship space.

Our outdoor sanctuaries include one of the first outdoor labyrinths in Connecticut, the Founders' Bell in our Peace Garden, shrine areas, a Peace Pole, and a medieval Mary Garden. The Marie Louise Trichet Gallery is a concrete expression of the connection between art and contemplation.

Wisdom House hosts over 300 groups and sponsors 250 programs/retreats each year. The center is available to organizations for their events when they are consistent with the mission of Wisdom House.
Wisdom House offers a variety of formal and informal meeting areas for individuals and groups up to 132 overnight, 200 daytime.
Wisdom House is at the intersection of Clark and East Litchfield Roads in Litchfield, CT. Guest parking is in the rear. Entry to the Main Building for groups is through the awning covered porch on the left.
Wisdom House is located on 70 acres of forests and meadows with peaceful country roads. The outdoor turf classical 7-circuit labyrinth is available for reflective walking. An outdoor swimming pool is open in July and August. Topsmead state park, with walking trails, is one mile from Wisdom House.
Professional, on-site chef provides tasty and nutritional meals.
Various meeting rooms - 12 spacious conference areas, including: auditorium, rooms with flexible seating, living room with fireplace, and more.
Wisdom House values its location in the historic town of Litchfield, incorporated in 1721. The town provides historic cultural resources to all who visit this area.
The campus of Wisdom House is comprised of the Farm House, the Colonial Brick House, the Marie Louise Carriage House and the Spruce Brook Barn. Groups may choose to stay or meet in these places. These buildings provide a variety of settings for study, writing or challenging interaction.

Wisdom House is a Catholic organization serving as an interfaith retreat and conference center. The Daughters of Wisdom, owners of Wisdom House, try to set forth an inclusive approach to Catholic spirituality which is based in the scriptures: "Wisdom has build a house and invites all to come" (Proverbs 9,1).

Silver Lake has 5 year-round buildings, available for Retreat groups September to May.
We can serve groups as small as 10 and as large as 180.
Each building has restrooms with showers and a meeting space.

Retreat Center
Our oldest retreat building, the Retreat Center, was completely renovated in 2012. In addition to new carpeting, paint, furniture, and bathrooms, structural improvements will make the building more energy efficient and sustainable.

  • The main room offers a large central meeting space as well as cozy conversation areas, each with glass doors leading to porches that overlook our serene woods. A fully equipped galley kitchen opens onto the main room.
  • The two bedroom wings each contain three bedrooms with three twin beds and one end room with four twin beds. Additionally, there are two accessible bedrooms and bathrooms in the main wing. Every room has a porch accessible through sliding glass doors. Three full bathrooms in each wing make staying in the new RC comfortable and convenient.

The Cedars
The largest of our five winterized retreat lodges, The Cedars accommodates a maximum of 54 people in dormitory-style bunk rooms.

  • The Cedars offers 6 bedrooms located on two floors; there are 5 restrooms configured with 9 sinks, 9 toilets, and 6 showers.
  • The Cedars contains a kitchenette appropriate for snack preparation including a full-size refrigerator, microwave oven, and coffee maker.
  • The main room of The Cedars is spacious and includes a very large stone fireplace with a wood-burning stove, tuned piano, and comfortable seating arrangements.

The Pines
The Pines is a two-story winterized lodge that accommodates a maximum of 36 people in dormitory-style bunk rooms.

  • The Pines offers 5 bedrooms and 4 restrooms configured with 5 sinks, 5 toilets, and 6 showers. Two of the restrooms are fully accessible for people using wheelchairs. Three bathrooms are private, single bathrooms.
  • The Pines includes a full kitchen appropriate for cooking. The kitchen includes a full-size refrigerator, microwave, and electric stove/oven. Pots, pans, dishes, and utensils are also available in the galley-style kitchen. The large main room is the perfect setting for meeting space and boasts a large stone fireplace with a wood-burning stove.

The Glen
The Glen is a three-story winterized lodge that accommodates a maximum of 38 people in dormitory-style bunk rooms.

  • The Glen offers 4 bedrooms and 4 restrooms configured with 8 sinks, 6 toilets, and 6 showers. The Glen is accessible for wheelchairs with an elevator/lift.
  • The lower level of The Glen includes a kitchen appropriate for cooking if groups prefer to prepare their own meals. The kitchen includes a microwave oven, full-size refrigerator, and electric stove/oven. Pots, pans, dishes, and utensils are also available in the galley style-kitchen.
  • The Glen boasts a large stone fireplace with a wood-burning stove.
  • The main meeting space is furnished with comfortable seating and large tables appropriate for doing special craft projects or dining. The lower level is furnished with tables for dining and a ping pong table for recreation.

The Lodge
The Lodge is the smallest of our winterized retreat facilities, accommodating a maximum of 18 people.

  • The bedrooms in The Lodge include bunkroom-style accommodations as well as some single beds.
  • There are a total of 4 bedrooms. The Lodge also offers two restrooms configured with 3 sinks, 2 toilets, and 2 showers.
  • The galley-style kitchen offers a microwave oven, full-size refrigerator, and electric stove/oven and lends itself to snack preparation. The main room of The Lodge is comfortably furnished and boasts a beautiful stone fireplace.

Silver Lake Conference Center is the home of the Outdoor Ministries of the Connecticut Conference of the United Church of Christ. Nestled in the picturesque foothills of the Berkshires of Litchfield County, Silver Lake has been welcoming church groups, youth groups, schools, non-profits and businesses, for almost fifty years during the Fall, Winter and Spring.

All kinds of groups looking for space in which to hold their own weekend or weekday retreat program are welcome at Silver Lake Conference Center.
Confirmation Retreats
Silver Lake Conference Center provides Confirmation Retreats annually. Silver Lake provides the resources and the leadership for each retreat and each group is required to bring adult advisors to facilitate the program.
