Nestled in the foothills of the Berkshires, Wisdom House Retreat and Conference Center invites you to an experience of peace and tranquility. Since 1969, Wisdom House has been an interfaith center welcoming women and men who value seeking and learning in a contemplative environment. The center is a ministry of the Daughters of Wisdom of the United States Province.
As a country retreat and conference center, Wisdom House spans 70 acres of meadows, woods and brooks. Indoor and outdoor sanctuary areas and labyrinth encourage meditation, prayer and creative thinking.
Wisdom House has several buildings on its campus. The Farm House, with its fireplace, dates back to 1770. The barn, circa 1925, includes a meeting room. The Colonial Brick House, and outdoor swimming pool, labyrinth, 70 acres of meadows and forests, all comprise the campus of Wisdom House.
Care for the land and spirituality have always been two essential aspect of Wisdom House. Three artesian wells provide water for the center. Social responsibility and environmental consciousness guide the general operations of the center (water, heat, electricity, land, food). The 2007 installation of art windows and glass balcony barrier in the chapel attempt bring “nature” into the worship space.
Our outdoor sanctuaries include one of the first outdoor labyrinths in Connecticut, the Founders' Bell in our Peace Garden, shrine areas, a Peace Pole, and a medieval Mary Garden. The Marie Louise Trichet Gallery is a concrete expression of the connection between art and contemplation.
|
|
| Wisdom House hosts over 300 groups and sponsors 250 programs/retreats each year. The center is available to organizations for their events when they are consistent with the mission of Wisdom House. |
| Wisdom House offers a variety of formal and informal meeting areas for individuals and groups up to 132 overnight, 200 daytime. |
| Wisdom House is at the intersection of Clark and East Litchfield Roads in Litchfield, CT. Guest parking is in the rear. Entry to the Main Building for groups is through the awning covered porch on the left. |
| Wisdom House is located on 70 acres of forests and meadows with peaceful country roads. The outdoor turf classical 7-circuit labyrinth is available for reflective walking. An outdoor swimming pool is open in July and August. Topsmead state park, with walking trails, is one mile from Wisdom House. |
| Professional, on-site chef provides tasty and nutritional meals. |
| Various meeting rooms - 12 spacious conference areas, including: auditorium, rooms with flexible seating, living room with fireplace, and more. |
| Wisdom House values its location in the historic town of Litchfield, incorporated in 1721. The town provides historic cultural resources to all who visit this area. |
The campus of Wisdom House is comprised of the Farm House, the Colonial Brick House, the Marie Louise Carriage House and the Spruce Brook Barn. Groups may choose to stay or meet in these places. These buildings provide a variety of settings for study, writing or challenging interaction.

| Silver Lake Conference Center is the home of the Outdoor Ministries of the Connecticut Conference of the United Church of Christ. Nestled in the picturesque foothills of the Berkshires of Litchfield County, Silver Lake has been welcoming church groups, youth groups, schools, non-profits and businesses, for almost fifty years during the Fall, Winter and Spring.
We invite you to come, be in community with us for a weekend or more. Experience God's grace among the trees, overlooking the Lake, beside the cascading stream, or abiding in the garden. Remember how to play, laugh, and sip mugs of hot cocoa beside a warm fire with friends and kindred spirits. Sing a blessing with us, as we prepare to serve each other good food, family-style. Join us in the age-old ritual of doing dishes in the dishroom afterwards, amidst more music.
Retreats and Retreat Facilities
Silver Lake Conference Center provides several opportunities for individuals and groups to participate in specialized programs of Christian Education and Spiritual Renewal each year. We invite young people from throughout Connecticut to meet others and to learn from these programs as they develop their faith and build relationships.
Church and Organization Retreats
All kinds of groups looking for space in which to hold their own weekend or weekday retreat program are welcome at Silver Lake Conference Center.
Confirmation Retreats
Silver Lake Conference Center provides Confirmation Retreats annually. Silver Lake provides the resources and the leadership for each retreat and each group is required to bring adult advisors to facilitate the program.
|
| Action Weekends - Held during the last weekend of April (Spring Action), and the last weekend of October (Fall Action), these work retreats are designed to provide an opportunity for young people in 9th grade and beyond to work together as Silver Lake is readied for the summer and winter months respectively. Many hands make light work! |
| Maple Sugaring Weekend - Held during the maple sugaring season (early March) each year, this weekend is designed to provide 5th and 6th graders with the opportunity to learn about tapping maple trees, boiling sap to make maple syrup, and to discover new ways to appreicate our environment and to care for all of God's Creation, in nature's resurrection: Spring! |
| Christmas at Silver Lake - Held during the first or second weekend of December each year, this weekend provides two separate programs, one for 5th and 6th graders and one for 7th and 8th graders. The true meaning of Advent and the Christmas Season is explored through fun activities, hayrides, games, mattress sledding, Christmas crafts, and our own Advent service. |
| Silver Lake Conference Center will celebrate 50 years of changing the lives of young people (of all ages!) in 2007. Be a part of the Reunion on August 19, 2007; stay for the day or for the week, just come and share the joy! |
