Where Are You Putting Your Faith?

by Rev. Joan Cerk

A friend was sharing with me recently that God had blessed her with quite a financial miracle. She was in the process of buying a new home and this was a great gift to her.

Before she chose faith and believed that this was a gift from God, she went through a period of anger, frustration, worry and all of the things that we choose when we don’t first choose peace. She was firmly entrenched in the belief that this was some huge mistake that was going to cause her awful problems, the kind of thinking that we all engage in from time to time to sabotage ourselves and our faith.

My friend soon found that God had created an event that turned out to be a wonderful gift. As we discussed this, I shared with her a recent event where I also had gone immediately into fear.

I had my bank deposit taken from my car. I was like Chicken Little running around declaring that the sky is falling. Finally I began to declare that God was the source of all my good. Instantaneously, I felt the need to return to the store where it had been taken. There in the middle of the drive, as if the angels had placed it right where I could see it, was my deposit! Because there was no cash, it had been discarded. God placed it directly in my path.

My friend wondered what lesson, or meaning was in this? Maybe the only lesson is that we did not trust God. If we say we trust and then choose fear, do we really trust? In both of these events, the outcome was very obviously directed by the hand of God. Why would we ever doubt? If God will care for the birds of the fields, will He not care for us?

Sometimes I have this vision in my mind of God sitting up in heaven heaving a big sigh and saying, "There she goes again— when will she learn?" When will we learn to go to faith and leave fear behind?

Let us begin right now. Let us stand in faith and know peace. God is truly always there. He is all we need or will ever need.

Thank you Holy Spirit for showing me this truth once again.
